Project description
Since CBD COP9 in Bonn, the Govt of Germany and UNDP have collaborated on the Lifeweb Initiative in support of Protected Areas; the 2010 Year of Biodiversity; as well as towards the CBD COP10 in Nagoya, Japan. UNDP seeks to cooperate with the ICI on biodiversity conservation, in particular in relation to indigenous peoplesÔÇÖ and community conserved areas and territories (ICCAs) as part of Targets 11, 14 and 18 of the Aichi 2020 framework. The proposal has been elaborated in the context of post-CBD COP11 (Hyderabad, Oct 2012) directions for (i) the Programme of Work on Protected Areas (PoWPA); (ii) the protection of traditional knowledge, innovation and practices; as well as (iii) in situ conservation and sustainable use. The proposal is being submitted to coincide with urgent priorities established under the CBD 2012-2020 targets, as well as to complement ongoing work being undertaken by the IUCN HQ Secretariat in preparation for the next World Parks Congress (fourth quarter of 2014).
