About this project
Description
The binational Artibonite river basin has suffered an accelerated degradation of its natural resources including loss of forest cover, soil loss and decreased soil fertility, excessive siltation, water pollution, and loss of biodiversity, contributing to already very high levels of poverty in the area. The long-term development objective of the project is the restoration and sustainable development of the bi-national Artibonite River Basin through integrated river basin management.
Objectives
Establish a bi-national framework for integrated management of the Artibonito watershed by 2012 that will promote comprehensive, ecosystem-based reforms, demonstrations and investments, and lay the bases for long-term environmental functionality and socio-economic stability.
